Turtle Ice Cream Pie, revisited

Photobucket
Remember this ice cream pie that I made a few weeks ago? My husband ranked it in his "top 5" desserts of all time, but I was a little underwhelmed by the vanilla ice cream layers?

Well...when the neighbors were coming over for dinner, I thought it would be the perfect time to try it again with different ice cream. (I hope they didn't mind being guinea pigs!)
For the 4 layers of ice cream, I alternated Haagen-Dazs Dulce de Leche & Coffee ice creams.

OH MY!!!!! This is now in my TOP 5 desserts! The caramel ice cream makes the pie a little messier because it has swirls of caramel in it, but oh, the mess is worth it!!! Looking for the recipe? It's here...from Bon Appetit magazine.

  1. I made a really delicious similar pie around Christmas--dulce de leche ice cream, pumpkin pie layer, whipped cream layer, then freeze, then drizzle with caramel! YUMMMM. This looks so good and makes me wish I was not trying to eat low carb...

  3. I'm not sure I could totally give up the vanilla ice cream....maybe I'd do vanilla and dulce de leche which right a this moment sounds heavenly.

Great photos. I love when you can see all the various layers.

  6. Wow... my hubby would go nuts over this. I wonder how long it will take Hagan Daz to create a new ice cream flavor that has all the ingredients of this pie in it.

  8. This would most definitely fall in my top 5 desserts... I absolutely LOVE ice cream... not so much cake, even though I still want to try your cake pops... But ice cream could be the death of me, and I would die happy. heh.

  10. wow, that sounds completely amazing!! I love the idea of using the dulce de leche ice cream- that just puts it over the top! Of course, I have been a little crazy about ice cream since I've been pregnant... I would probably eat the entire pie if I made it in my current state!
