A cookie full of posies...

Photobucket
My girlfriend Terri is having a birthday today...and her sweet mom ordered cookies for her! :)

She ordered these:
pink cakes and daisies
But then emailed and told me to do whatever I wanted.

I still wanted to make the pink birthday cakes...they are some of my favorites, but I thought I'd play around with the design a little.

These on the right, with the big flowers, turned out to be my favorites. The flowers are pretty "high profile," so I'm a little worried about how they will ship.

Maybe Terri will let us know. (Don't worry, I sent extras in case of breakage!)

Here are a few of Terri's pink birthday cookie mix all together...

Terri.....I hope you have a wonderful birthday!!! I miss you! I'll be sure to drink a Bass Ale in your honor tonight! :)

  2. Wow! I love these cute COOKIES and the color combination is one of my favorites... what a great idea to "dot and swirl" for those flowers, they look great... I love the white flowers you made (the "low profile" ones :D ), I've seen them on hawaiian shirt COOKIES, but don't know how to do them... can you share the secret?

  3. Those are fabulous. I love them. I have trouble having success when I ship cookies to friends and family. Could you give me some tips?

  4. Bea...it's the same way you add flat dots, just make a flower shape instead.

Betsy...after much trial and error...I individually bag the cookies, lay them flat in a single layer inside a sturdy box between layers of foam or bubble wrap. Then, I put that box in another box, cushioned with packing peanuts. It's quite the process. :) Still, depending on how they are handled, there can be some breakage. I also have learned the hard way that certain shapes don't ship well.

  7. Very cute!

    Question:
Would you, could you address in a blog post or via email why my royal icing might have left a funny bumpy texture once it finally dried. Not really bumpy, but almost like a drag texture that you might find on a wall. Indentations. Took for-ev-ver to dry then they did that. I was mad >:|

    Thanks.

  14. I have never baked cookies besides gingerbread men and choc chip. I am totally in awe of your cookies. It must take ages to decorate them so beautifully. Really love your work. Hopefully, with your inspiration, I will get to try doing decorated cookies someday.

Just got home from a great visit with Terri and let me tell you--the cookies were wonderful--beautiful and so yummy !!!(Almost too pretty to eat) I DID not see the ones with the flowers as the cookies arrived on Thursday and by the time I got there on Friday nite there were 8 cookies remaining. So I guess Terri will have to let you know how they shipped:))Thanks for an awesome birthday gift for my daughter.

  22. The cookies were so YUMMY and absolutely beautiful!!! The raised flowers shipped just fine...they were perfect! I enjoyed eating the cookies and was even scolded by one of my children when they came home and found me out on the back porch eating one. They said, "MOOOMMM!!!" (in a tone that implied that I should not be eating the cookies}...you see, they had already laid claim to the cookies. They thought I would just have one and be done since I have been trying to lose those last 10 pounds. What they didn't understand was that A. It's my birthday, B. These are the yummiest cookies ever and C. IT'S MY BIRTHDAY and I can eat as many cookies as I want. Of course, all I said to them was "What?" (with a shrug), "Grandma DID get them for me?" Ha!!! Thanks again!!!

  25. how did you make the 'high profile' flowers?

  26. The present with graduated polka dots and the cake with swags are my favorite two. And the roses remind me of Mary Engelbreit's style, which makes me smile.
