This week, we're reviewing Trader Joe's Chocolate Raspberry Tamales.
Jack and I were in Trader Joe's after Christmas and these were in our cart approximately .064 seconds after we spied them.
Let's go on record by saying that chocolate tamales might just be the most UNphotogenic food in the world. I'm just going to leave it at that.
You can find these in the freezer section; a package of 4 tamales costs $3.99.
(See what I mean? NOT photogenic.)
A mom's (my) take: A little like a lava cake, but with less "lava," these little tamales are just the right combination of cake and melty chocolate. The raspberry adds brightness and pairs really well with the chocolate. You could absolutely dress these up with a little powdered sugar, chocolate drizzle and fresh raspberries. They'd be a fun ending to a Mexican feast!
Overall rating: 5 of 5 stars
A teenager's (Jack's) take: This immediately reminded me of a lava cake, with a brownie-like outer layer... what couldn't I love about that? The chocolate on the inside was just perfect, especially warmed up. However, there was too much raspberry for my tastes. I do enjoy fruit and chocolate, but not to the point where the fruit overpowers the chocolate. And since it was warmed up, the tangy flavor was exponentially more obvious and overpowering. Who knows, if some of you love a lot of fruit flavor with your sweets, you'll be all over these! For me, it was a bit too much, Other than that, though, these "tamales" are spot-on!
Overall rating: 4 out of 5 stars
Trader Joe's Chocolate Raspberry Tamales: Try them!
[note: We have no affiliation with Trader Joe's. I'm sure they have never read this blog and have no idea who we are. Hey, we like being incognito, although we never wear sunglasses indoors. ;)]

Here's what else we're loving this week:
- The new Star Wars movie...if you haven't seen it, go! There's something for everyone.
- This Chocolate Swiss Cake Roll over on PW Food & Friends...must make!
- I really meant to make these bacon, spinach, and four cheese stuffed mushrooms for NYE, but I forgot. Making them next week....maybe I'll have just these for dinner!
Happy, happy 2016!!! We can't wait to see what Trader Joe's has in store for us this year!
