A Year of Gingerbread Houses

I've been so excited to share this book with you all...
A Year of Gingerbread Houses by Kristine Samuell

A Year of Gingerbread Houses : book review
I have to confess that I've decorated a gingerbread house before, but I've never actually MADE one. Now, I CANNOT wait to get started.

I love so many things about this book.

A Year of Gingerbread Houses : book review
A. The book gives very clear instructions on the exact tools needed and specific techniques to use...from piping with different tips to templates to recipes.

B. The inspiration! These are some of my favorite pages in the book. Samples of doors, windows, walkways, fireplaces, roofs! I want to live in a gingerbread house. Is that too much to ask?!?

C. The book is not limited to Christmas gingerbread houses. I don't want to give away all of the GORGEOUS and creative houses inside, but here's a peek at a BIRTHDAY gingerbread house. Ohmygosh....so cute! Kristine walks you through making every single detail.

Guys, there's much more where that came from!

  2. Wow, this book looks like such much fun! My mom used to have an old cookbook that had a page with an ornately-decorated gingerbread house, and I used to love looking at it. I definitely need to check out Kristine's book!

  5. Oh....I just LOVE anything and everything to do with gingerbread houses. I could spend an hour writing here everything I love about them but I won't bore everyone. All I'll say is that I am SO glad you showed this book today. My list of cookbooks, baking books, cake decorating, cookie decorating, cupcake decorating, candy making and gingerbread house making books is already so long I'll be a 100 before I would ever get all of them (that's not counting all the ones people will keep writing) so it seems silly to add one more to the list but I just can't help it. What is it about gingerbread houses that just seems to make everyone adore them so? I'm also SO glad they've moved out of the Christmas only season and into the rest of the holidays. Something this nice, this fun, this adorable shouldn't be limited to just a couple weeks in the year.

  6. This is a P.S. that I forgot to add my last post. I got a chuckle when I read at the end of your article the "Let's Do This!" as my first thought was....she's been watching too many episodes of the Disney Junior Channel children's show, The Octonauts and pretending she's Captain Barnacles. If I remember correctly, isn't he the one who is always saying, "Let's Do This"?

  12. Bridget,
I haven't made a gingerbread house in a long time. I made one when I was a teenager but nothing that looked so pretty.

  13. Bridget! I'm so flattered that you, a cookie and icing master, like my book! So I have to let you know that I didn't stop there.......I'm blogging' on to share more gingerbread patterns, recipes, tutorials, and photos. While I love creating from scratch, many of the blog projects use my favorite gingerbread shortcut.....making stunning houses from pre-baked kits.
