Cookie Decorators, Raise Your Work Surface...Works for Me Wednesday

Every now and then, husbands know best.

I'd been decorating cookies for a couple of years...I always decorated at night after putting kiddo to bed. It never failed, I'd crawl into bed after a few hours of decorating with an aching back and tense shoulders.

One night, Mr. E walked into the kitchen as I was decorating and said, "why don't you raise up your work surface?"
Ding, ding, ding!!!  Life. changed.

Now when I decorate, I *always* raise up my cookie sheet.
If you don't have a step stool, I *know* you have a stack of cookbooks.

Raise 'em up.  No more hunching.
Thank you notes from your back can be addressed to Mr. E. ;)

  1. Love it. I have found success is sitting on the couch and using one of those wooden stacking tables that come in sets of four!

  5. So do you stand while decorating? I'm still trying to find the best angle to work at to help keep my hand steady.

  6. I finally figured this out when decorating cakes - also helps to have something that works "turntable" when icing the sides!

That's impressive that you can stay up that late! I'm the opposite and love the wee morning hours:)

  14. I love it! Sometimes my husband will walk into the kitchen, see me doing something, and deliver a completely thoughtful suggestion that it obviously took an observant kitchen outsider to come up with. It's so helpful to have observant kitchen outsiders around - this suggestion is so fantastically helpful!

  15. I love your stack of cookbooks- I want/own nearly all of them! And this is actually the one benefit of being short- the counter and cookie sheets are super close. And I second cookiekara- tv trays are super great too

  17. I use my ironing board to decorate my cookies. It adjusts it to just the perfect height and it's extra length is a great surface for my drying cookies!

  18. Funny you posted this today.. after working on many cookies over the weekend I sat down to finish last night. My neck bothered me the last few days. I grabbed my tall cake turntable and put it on the table & put a cookie on top. It worked so great that I finished last night & today my neck feels fine

  19. I will have to investigate that. I am TOO SHORT for our counter tops, so I currently need to stand on an 8" wooden box that my husband made for me. Next time I'm that much taller, I'll see if I start to hunch over. I've been trying to find a table the correct height - and a place to put it, short of building an additional kitchen just for everything my size... AND all my baking equipment and tools. :-)

  32. I love this idea! I've got a wedding cookie order coming up and it's the largest I've done. I will most certainly use this idea while I'm decorating once the kids are in bed. Good times indeed!

  34. I always decorate my cookies on a cake turntable, they are raised up and I can just turn them when I need to without picking the tray up :)
