More Tasty than a Chocolate Frog

*Do you have the theme song in your head yet?*

Last week, part one of the movie of the last Harry Potter book was released.

We haven't seen it, yet, but I must tell you, we LOVE Harry Potter.  At first glance, it may seem a story of wizards, but at it's heart, it is a tale of the power of love, loyalty, bravery, sacrifice and friendship.
Once I thought kiddo was old enough, we started reading them together.  Actually, *I* read them...aloud, all 4,100 pages of them (to be exact).  Snuggled on the couch, under a pile of afghans, Harry, Ron, Hermione, Hagrid and Dumbledore...they became a part of our lives.  Everyday we ended our reading with kiddo begging, "more, more!"

We waited for the last book to be released and I sobbed though the entire thing.  Not only was I going to miss Harry, but I knew this had been precious time with kiddo.  Yes, there would be more books to read together,  but these were special.

Want to make some Harry Potter cookies?  Here's what you'll need:
With a #2 tip, outline the face in copper/flesh.

Thin the flesh color with water until it is the consistency of thick syrup.  Let sit several minutes covered with a damp dish towel.

Stir gently, transfer to a squeeze bottle and fill in the face.  Let sit a few hours.
With a #2 tip, outline the hair in black.

{Forgot to take pictures of a few of the steps here, but.....}

Fill in the hair in black flood icing,
pipe the glasses with a #1 tip,
pipe the lightning bolt with a #1 tip in red.
With the #1 tip, pipe a smile.

I've said it before.....do NOT try to cheat and use a baggie instead of a piping bag.  I slipped a #1 tip in a baggie for the eyes....not wanting to waste a piping bag for a few eyes.  Yep, the bag exploded and broke Harry's glasses.  Not even a "Reparo" charm could help me.

On the brooms, I tried a trick from Kudos Kitchen.  Painting on the wood grain.  Renee is a master of this; I'm still learning.  (You can see a video of her technique here.)
{Broom cutter from Sweet!}

Don't forget sweet Hedwig, Harry's snowy owl.

Ron & Hermione sittin' in a tree....
{JK Rowling...thanks for making Hermione a hero to "bushy-haired" girls everywhere!}

A special shout-out to Diamonds for Dessert!  Her Harry Potter cookies were a MAJOR inspiration to me and the first Harry cookies I'd ever seen.  (Love that Snape!)

  24. LOVE these! We are huge harry potter fans over here as well. I read them all before I got married, and I wanted my husband to appreciate them. So i started reading them out loud to him - starting with book one while sitting in the airport at the beginning of our honeymoon! Needless to say he was hooked and I also read every single page out loud over the course of months and months. They are incredible :)

  25. I'm such a huge Harry Potter fan!! Can I change my comment for the contest blog to this--> The Harry Potter cookies are my favourite! haha I wish I had piping tools to try this:(

    And I have searched high and low to find a book that gives me that same feeling as HP does, to no avail. I am so sad it's coming to an end...

  33. Oh Bridget!! I love these!!

    SO would my son...we are HUGE HP fans...just saw the movie yesterday afternoon and my kid was so engrossed in the whole thing. You'd think that a 6 year old would get antsy during an over 2 hour movie...but it was so great.

    These cookies are just TOO TOO cute!!! One of my favorites that you have done.

  34. You just rock girl, that's all there is to it. I love these!!

  35. I was sad to see the end of the Harry Potter series too- so much good reading!

    Have you read the Underland Chronicles by Suzanne Collins? I bet you and the kiddo would like those, if you enjoyed Harry Potter. They are very well written excellent stories (and a bit dark! lots of sobbing in the last one too)

I just love the white on white decoration!! Can you tell I'm bird-crazy? There are owls that live in our trees in the back yard and there is nothing sweeter than their sounds!

    Thank you for the inspiration!

    As always, YOU ROCK!

  39. My daughter is a huge Harry Potter fan; sometimes I might say fanatic; she's been reading and going to the movies on the first night since college and she is now 30!

    Her birthday is coming up and I'm betting my delivering a batch of these cookies would be far more to her taste than a cake; I have to do it!

  40. Brilliant! You cease to amaze me with your cookies. These are awesome! My son started reading the Harry Potter series at a young age and has all the books. He is now 14 and is re-reading the books. I was amazed when I saw him re-reading them. We can't wait to see the movie.

    Karenscookies.net You take a piece of saran wrap, put your frosting on it, wrap it up and then twirl the ends... no really that's what you do. :) Drop it in the bag, pull it down, cut the end and pop on the tip. If you are ever bored... I know dumb comment come and check out the blog I just started I could use some tips! :) It's lifesbetterwithbutter.blogspot.com

  49. You. Are. Awesome! And now picture me writing that 50 times (which I won't do, because that would take up a lot of your page). I had to post a link on ediblecrafts.craftgossip.com. You. Are. Awesome! I heart Harry. And Ron. And Hermione.

  57. Holy Harry-these are fab! I love Harry Potter and my lil guy is just getting into it. Of course when he saw these he asked if we could make them. :)

  58. These are fabulous cookies, Bridget! I can totally relate to your 'sadness' of the last book of the HP series. As eager as I was to read it, knowing it was the last of the series was heartbreaking. It felt like losing part of your family! My now 13 year old, started reading HP when he was 9. He was totally consumed with them, so naturally, I had to see why. Couldn't put them down once I started reading!
    What a wonderful treat for any Harry Potter fan!
    By the way, I can't wait to go to The Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Universal Studios!

  64. Hi Bridget! I have been away from your blog, but now I am back.

    Those cookies (and your writing about sharing time with your son) are the only things to ever make me want to read Harry Potter. I think we'll start this weekend.

    Happy Thanksgiving!

  65. OH my guys would LOVE these cookies~ what a cute idea ;)

  66. If you want an explosion-proof bag, use a milk bag (one of the small clear or blue ones, not the big one). They can generally take icing no problem if you're willing to sacrifice one for the purpose.

    ReplyDelete
  67. OMGosh! These are just darling. Darling I tell you!

  68. These are beautiful! I made a few HP cookies for a Wizard Rock concert the week of the premiere. It's amazing to see how quickly fans will gobble up their favorite character cookies!
